Biography – Dr. Erick Santos

Dr. Erick Santos started as an Assistant Professor in Forage Science at the University of Alberta in 2023.
He acquired a B.Sc. in animal sciences at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (2014), and a M.Sc.
(2017) and Ph.D. (2021) in Agronomy at the University of Florida, with focus on forage and grazing management. Dr. Santos was then a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta for one and half years before becoming a faculty member. During his Ph.D., he received several awards and recognitions, including the Gerald O. Mott Meritorious Graduate Student Award in Crop Science, Fred Hull Award of Excellence, and the International Student Outstanding Achievement. Dr. Santos’ research topics include
grass-legumes mixtures, crop-livestock systems, cover crops, nutrient cycling, strategies to extend the grazing season, and assessment of ecosystem services provided by grasslands. Dr. Santos serves as an associate editor for the Grass and Forage Science and Crop Science journals, and is the chair-elect for
the Forages and Grazinglands section of the Crop Science Society of America. To date, Erick has published or co-authored, 1 book chapter, 53 research papers, 84 abstracts, and 42 extension reports or prints in popular press.
